Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
